DeLonghi DO400 Toaster Oven Review

by admin on January 22, 2011

Today I’ll be looking at the DeLonghi DO400 1400-Watt Digital Control 4-Slice Toaster Oven. It’s but one of the many quality kitchen appliances from DeLonghi.

Here are the product specifications of the D0400:

  • Dimensions – 11.25 x 16 x 8 inches
  • Weight – 17 pounds
  • Power draw – 1400 watt
  • Slice capacity – 4 slices
  • Included accessories – Bake pan, broil rack
  • Settings – Bake, broil, keep food warm
  • Warranty – 1-year limited warranty
  • Convection – No

The best deal we found on the DeLonghi DO400 Toaster Oven was here, at Amazon.com which also included free shipping.

The first thing you’ll think is that the DO400 looks a lot more expensive than it actually is. It is a digital toaster oven, with a backlit LCD screen and digital buttons. The screen is very nice and easy to read, and shows the time when the oven is not in use. The main benefit of digital controls is that you have precise control over the temperature and timer, meaning you get your food exactly the way you want it.

The toasting function has six different pre-set levels, but in my testing, you are better off going with the first and lowest setting, which gave me nicely toasted bread. I initially tried the third setting and it burnt my toast, and the second made it slightly overdone, but the first was fine. I can’t imagine ever needing to use the highest setting, but I suppose that if you’re toasting a full oven of bread, the slightly higher settings will come into play.

The DeLonghi DO400 baking works nice as expected. Again, the digital controls make it much easier to use, as knob-based toaster ovens can make for a bit of guess work as the settings are not always precise, but with this toaster oven you can set it exactly how you want it. I made chicken tenders for the kids last night and they turned out great. I also made a nice tuna casserole with it last week, and it also came out beautifully. I haven’t tried much more of the baking function, but I have no complaints about it at this point at all.

One minor quibble I have with the DeLonghi D0400 toaster oven is that… it’s loud. The beeping, that is. DeLonghi decided to give this model an extra-loud beep when you’re pushing the buttons on the front, or when your food is done. It’s not excruciatingly loud, but it definitely gets your attention. I am assuming they made it this way so that you could hear it from another room, but just be warned – it’s loud.

Final verdict on the DeLonghi D0400?

This toaster oven is a great buy for the money. Toaster ovens with digital controls and displays usually cost twice the amount this model does, and it’s definitely worth it. The only downside, as I mentioned earlier, is the beeping, but it’s not a deal breaker at all. All in all, you can’t really go wrong with this model.
