Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler Review

by admin on January 22, 2011

Today we’ll be reviewing the Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler, which is yet another toaster oven in the long line produced by Cuisinart. We’ve covered several Cuisinart toaster ovens in the past, and we’ve found that their products are usually excellent.

Let’s see if the TOB-60 stands up to the quality we’ve come to expect from Cuisinart.

We found that Amazon had a great price on the TOB-60. You can check it out here.

The exterior of the Cuisinart TOB-60 is attractive, brushed stainless steel, and looks very nice. Being stainless steel, there’s a good chance that it won’t quite match any of your other kitchen appliances, but it still blends in well with almost anything. The body of the toaster oven is strongly built, and the door seems to be of great quality. We did find the front controls of the unit to be a bit stiff when first used, but after using it for a while they do loosen up and start to feel the way they should. Care should be taken when using the unit, as it’s quite easy to accidentally set the oven in convection mode. All this will do is make the interior take a longer time to heat up, but it’s easy to accidentally do it.

Owing to its size, the TOB-60 is adequate enough to comfortably cook a variety of different foods and meals. Everybody’s favorite is, of course, pizza, and the TOB-60 can easily hold a pizza pan of up to 12″ in diameter, which makes for a nice-sized pizza. Meats, casseroles, and other types of food also cook nicely in the unit, but we did find one slight flaw. Due to the way the slide-out tray is designed, the unit can become top-heavy and flip over when the tray is all the way out. Extra precaution is needed if you’re going to prepare something heavy but small in this toaster oven.

Another minor complaint we had with this unit is in the toasting function. Being a toaster oven, you might expect the toasting to be the primary focus of the design. We found that the toasting ability could have been a bit better — it requires some trial and error with the bread you use in order to find the optimal settings. The oven doesn’t heat up very quickly, which isn’t optimal for making toasted bread or bagels. The TOB-60 can definitely be used to make toast if that’s what you wish, but the baking and broiling functions of the unit are much better in our experience.

The Final Verdict on the Cuisinart TOB-60?

The Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler makes for a great mini-oven. It can be used to prepare a lot of the meals you would prepare in a regular oven. A convection feature is always a nice thing to have in a toaster oven, and makes it possible to cook things such as fish, pizza, chicken, casseroles, etc. The toasting function could be better, but it’s not a deal killer. All in all, we can recommend this oven.

What we liked about the Cuisinart TOB-60:

  • Makes a great pizza of up to 12″
  • Convection function makes it possible to cook many different small meals
  • It looks great

What we didn’t like so much about the Cuisinart TOB-60:

  • Controls a bit stiff at first; they do loosen up, though
  • Tray design makes the unit top-heavy and prone to flipping over when pulled all the way out
  • Toasting function not great, but passable
